X-ZYLO ULTRA
FLYING GYROSCOPE
BUILDING AND WORKING
In appearance it seems a simple toy to build, but the materials and the balancing of the weights, are fruit of complex researches. This little flying object little bigger than the palm of a hand, is able to fly to big distance without particular efforts. His inventor, Mark Forti, realized a hybrid between a gyroscope and a plane. The front (the head) is weighed down by a stiff ring that behaves as a gyroscope. The back-side (the tail) has a wavy form and exploits aerodynamics as a plane wing. When comes launched, X-zyLo rotates and screws in the air keeping for a long time the direction and the height from the ground, even in presence of wind.
 
X-ZYLO PHYSICS
The wavy profile of the X-zyLo flaps has a behaviour similiar to the double wing of a biplane. When moves forward, between the two lower and superior surfaces is produced aerodynamic lift. The lift is a strength which opposes the gravity force and borns by the difference of speed with which air particles cross the profile of a wing. Wing is shaped to force the incident air to a double way: it is necessary a longer way to cross the top side (the back) as opposed to the low side (the belly). To meet at the end of wing, the particles of air that travel on the back will have to be faster than (the ones) that travel on the belly. On the basis of the Bernoulli law, greater speed means lower pressure. So, the top side of wing (greater speed) will therefore have a more less pressure than the lower part (more less speed). The wing will be resucked and be able to rise.

But how does the flight of ours X-zyLo being so stable? The answer is given by the rotation of the cylinder, that makes it like a gyroscope. Try to seize a wheel of bike from his spin axis, make it turn and try to move it in the space. You will see it opposes a remarkable strength to any shifting of the spin axis. The bike wheel is a gyroscope, as any object with a geometrical and mass symmetry, placed in quick rotation. The gyroscopic effect is widely used in the aircrafts, to increase the flight stability and keep the trajectories.

 

THROW HOWTO
For an american throwing X-zyLo is very simple. It uses the same throwing technique of the American Football or Rugby ball. A co-ordinate movement of rotation and forward push, more effective as more fluid it is. For us "soccer-addicted" this throwing technique requires some practice, but the entertainment to see the flying cylinder running away, has a big persuasion power.
Is important to respect the throwing direction of the cylinder, shown by an arrow. The smooth part (gyroscope) must go forward, the wavy part (wing) must be behind. The base rule is to fix an adequate rotation while one moves the arm forward: more faster is the rotation more stable will be the flight. In this action one can help by moving the body forward, to balance throwing. Also left-handed gamers can throw X-zylo without problems, is only important to always respect the orientation head-tail, the rotation direction does not count.
Most common mistakes are due the inclination toward the up or down direction, that shortens the covered distance, or to excessive bending toward right or left. First throwings strech toward right (left for the left-handed people) and toward up, but in a few time everyone is right away able to check the draw. The rotation remains impressed with a swift movement of the wrist. After a few "violent" throwings at the ground, the movement becomes spontaneous.

 

RECEIVING HOWTO
The beautiful of the game is to go by X-zyLo between two or more people. The receipt is simple because the cylinder gets down sweetly up to stand on ground, by bending lightly to the end of the flight. It can be received from the head, from the border, to slip the hand in the running "tunnel" or invent acrobatic holds. In first throwings is better to use the not much elegant two hands hold, to evaluate better the impact and bending suits.
RESISTANCE AND SECURITY
X-zyLo is realized in plastic, only weighs 25 grams but his flexible structure makes it very resistant. It bears well the falls, but for the first times there is better not to use it on the asphalt. The ideal is a lawn, or a game field field in beaten earth. When you will be skilled throwers and receivers, you will be able to use it everywhere, with a little attention: Do not play in dealt or crowded places to avoid unpleasant accidents.
